As a Fitness Coach you may think that I love New Years Resolutions. New clients, new goals, more motivation than ever. Sadly I have watched this fall apart year after year… Resolutions are made with grandiose intentions while lacking the foundations that foster success. The motivation to make a change in your life is something that I love to capitalize on with my clients. The difference is the plan and program we put in place to ensure that they accomplish their goals. Let’s set resolutions aside and think about how to make sustainable change in your life. Sustainable change comes from first identifying the struggles/problems you wish to solve. Start small and pick the one problem that you are most willing to change. Without the desire to make a change you will not be sustainable. Then ask yourself “What habit could I create that would be the most beneficial to solving my problem?”. Do you have the resources to solve the problem? If you do, then how will you keep yourself accountable to the change you are making? Once you can consistently engage with the beneficial behavior to the point that you no longer have to think about it is when you have built a sustainable habit. Now you have the capacity to solve your next problem. New Year’s Resolution do not work, unless you have a well thought out plan to build new habits in a sustainable way. If you want to develop truly sustainable habits this New Year working with a coach that creates effective plans and provides you with accountability and resources is your quickest path to success.
